Everyone has a different opinion about the use of these terms, my dear anon. Some people believe that sexism and racism work both ways. A lot of dictionaries still define these as such.
To me, that’s prejudice rather than those two -isms. Racism and sexism are more to do with prejudice and discrimination coming from a group that is considered to be ‘superior’. They are to do with the idea of supremacy. In order to be a sexist or a racist, you must have the socio-economic power that allows you to force others to do what you wish even if they don’t.
This is not, at all, disregarding the struggles that men or white people might face from women or POCs. It’s simply saying that what they suffer from are not/should not be called sexism or racism because those things involve the possession of power.
ok so i’ve been thinking about this all day and there is just no way puck isn’t gay.
i know you think that so i shouldn’t try and convince you but you’re the only person i know who ships puckurt or thinks he’s anything other than straight so i wanted to ramble in your submit haha hello
ok so, puck is so gay.
at least four times in the series puck looks at finn and asks if he’s gay. two of these are more or less justified- when kurt’s singing a house is not a home and when finn’s getting into jesus mode. but the other two- when finn’s helping kurt on the football team and the time he says ‘i knew it, you’re in love with kurt.’ are just so… unneeded. it’s like everywhere puck looks, any immediate male/male interaction is gay.
i feel like his views are so skewed that he could totally be the type to cross his arms and shake his head and say nope, i’m not gay, everyone else is. if two guys talk, puck’s mind- so afraid of it’s own big gay secret, turns it into something that it’s not. the most platonic interactions are gay. unless it’s about himself. because he’s not gay.
and then there’s the little things he dismisses as gay, like the not washing below the belt scene. how terrified of thinking he’s gay can one person be if they’re not willing to touch themselves despite having one of the highest sex drives in ohio?
and speaking of sex drives… i mean, come on. reaffirming his masculine and heterosexual ways by sleeping with as many women as he can? i feel like i read that in an article on traits of closeted gay men.
but the big thing, the thing that hit me today and kind of bunched up all my thoughts and convinced me was this:
puck has nothing against gay people. he’s just afraid of gay.
i mean, his friendship with kurt speaks volumes. they’re not bffs or anything, but puck has a high level of care for kurt, and even offhandedly complemented blaine once. puck doesn’t treat kurt like he’s diseased or different or a piriah. kurt’s his bro, his boy. he’s never said a cruel thing to santana about her sexuality and i doubt he views brittany poorly. in the entire school, puck is a loyal, non judgmental member of the school’s gayest club
but in acceptance of the only gay couples he knows, shouldn’t that absolve at least some of his homophobia too?
it’s just so strange that, for as much as he doesn’t seem to think negatively of the gay couples around him, he’s still making homophobic quips this season. he’s still very scared of the idea of being gay, even though he’s surrounded by proof that gay couples are no different than straight ones
it’s almost as though that fear, the driving force for him to continually label things gay and ask other people if they’re gay or avoid everyday tasks that he deems gay comes from somewhere other than peer pressure and the way most teenage jocks view homosexuality
somewhere more internal
anon…this is beautiful. Thank you for submitting this, thank you <3
The anon makes some good points but I would just like to say that whilst I don’t think Puck is straight either, saying that ‘Puck is gay’ is very dodgy because that means you’re completely disregarding his previous experiences with girls.
I’m not saying he *can’t possibly* be gay but it’s highly unlikely judging on how much he seems to enjoy sexual experiences with females. Besides, sexuality and sexual preference are not binary.
I’m not going against any of the points made by the anon, just wanted to say that I definitely agree with Puck isn’t straight but you can’t really label him as gay either.
This is the boy who used to toss kids into dumpters, who used to call Glee club the ‘homoexplosion’, the boy who didn’t care about anything or anyone but sex, money and his reputation.
Look at him now, look. Look how much he’s grown. Open your eyes and see his boy who grew up so much even though he had to do it without anyone’s help. Most people still think of him as this delinquent and even those who don’t, they don’t expect much from him either.
But here he is, wearing a dress and wig and clumsily done make-up, standing in front of his friends, his family. You can laugh at how ridiculous he looks but stop for a moment and think about how significant this scene is. Sue said that a guy is drag is what they need so that’s what Noah did. He’s willing to throw away what’s left of his badass reputation (after Glee club, after dancing with Becky, etc.) for a chance to help them win.
If this was in season 1, Puck would have sided with Sue and told Kurt that he should do it but no, this is season 3, Puck has changed and grown up and this is what he did.
Noah Puckerman is a team player and an amazing person, don’t you fucking forget it.
I am really really not okay about the Quick kiss in Goodbye.
EXACTLY! The teachers are crazy at my school. We have to make so many college-possibilities lists and present evidences of our college researches and stuff…
But I mean the teachers at that school have never been stellar from day one.
Will and Emma constantly let their personal lives mix an intervene with their jobs and never seem to be able to give any non-cliché advices…
Sue… well let’s not even go there…
EXCUSE ME.
I just can’t with her character any more.
what happened to “My dreams are bigger than that and they are bigger than you”rachel?
She’s dead in a ditch somewhere with the Kurt who valued things other than his boyfriend.
Or y’know, she might have just grown up a little bit and realised that if her and Finn are going to be married, she has to consider his dreams as well as hers and that it’s not okay just to drag him along and keep him as a trophy husband while she rises to Broadway-stardom.
She never said that they would go wherever Finn decided, they agreed that they would give his dreams and equal shot, like partners are supposed to do.
I think they’re both silly for binding their futures together at such a young age and I think they should plan their futures separately. If they really do ‘belong’ together, they can find one another after college. But that aside, Finn deserves just as much as Rachel and I can’t believe how people don’t understand this.
regarding the Kurt&Blaine spoiler for 3x17
” it’s the people whose otps are femslash-ships who tend to hate Finn to the core of their being. They do it to the point of wishing bodily harm and death to him and it just baffles me.”
What the hell? Do you seriously realize what you are writing?
First, there are kind of people who are considering the death of the characters that they hate in all kinds of fandoms. I’m not saying that it is a intelligent idea, but don’t you dare caricature femlash shippers . What are implying, that they are lesbians who hate men???? News flash there are also other shippers who hate Finn, as some of my friends (ex Finchel shippers, for instance)!! And they certainely have good reasons! Of course I know (well, I hope) that you are not saying that but this is seriously misleading… If I don’t like Finn it has nothing to do with my love for Faberry: he IS a ass. And sorry if I’m not agreeing with the way that the show portrays him as some kind of a good guy, even if he is now far from that now. I did love him at the beginning of Glee, however now… this is a different story
I said tend to didn’t I? I’m sorry if it sounded like I think ALL femslash-shippers hate Finn and wish him ill but you can’t tell me that most of the people who do are people who ship Rachel with a female character and people who are Santana-stans.
Did I ever say that they are lesbians who hate men? No, I didn’t. Seriously, half of the people who ship femslash aren’t even lesbians so what gave you the impression that that was what I meant?!
Whether or not Finn is “an ass” is purely down to personal opinion. I don’t think he is and you do. I’m not saying you’re wrong and I’m right.
The thing that I have a problem with, is that a lot of people despise Finn because of what he did to Santana but they turn a blind eye (and a deaf ear) to how Santana treated him before this happened. Just because she was a closeted lesbian struggling with her sexuality does not give her the right to treat other people like shit and some Finn-haters don’t seem to get this.
As far as a lot of the femslashers I follow, their OTP isn’t why they are upset about Cory being a co-host. Its generally because of the way Santana’s coming out story line was handled. They hate that Finn outed her, continued to push her to be fully out when she wasn’t comfortable, and then that everything (as most things are in Glee) got healed with a song. And they feel like, because actors are invariably linked with their characters, that Cory hosting with Naya was giving the message that how the Finn and Santana story line was handled is okay.
I might be wrong but I personally think that their hatred from Finn stems from the personal bias that is caused by the fact that Finn is dating half of their OTP (for the Faberry and Pezberry shippers anyway). As for Brittana shippers, yeah the coming out story line was probably why they hate Finn.
I’m not saying that Finn didn’t fuck up because he did, but Santana fucked up too. She was verbally abusing him at every turn for no reason other than the fact that she’s a self-proclaimed ‘straight-up bitch’. She pushed and pushed him to the edge of his tolerance and while this does not excuse his action, it explains it. I don’t think Finn ‘continued’ to push her. He told her to come out but he didn’t do anything more than other glee clubbers afterwards.
I don’t think Cory hosting gives out that message at all. It would just be two actors who were involved in a relevant story line.
Seriously, I think Dave got less hate when he continuously bullied Kurt than Finn does for one mistake.
